Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has disclosed that security agencies successfully thwarted an alleged plan to bomb the Ondo State Government House several months ago.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Wednesday, the governor revealed that the operation was carried out following credible intelligence reports received by security authorities.
According to Aiyedatiwa, the suspects behind the alleged plot initially checked into a hotel before relocating to a rented apartment, where security operatives later uncovered materials believed to be connected to the planned attack.
He explained that a joint operation involving the police and the Amotekun Corps led to a raid on the location, resulting in the arrest of the suspects.
“Following intelligence reports, the police and Amotekun moved in, raided the location, arrested the suspects, and they remain in custody,” the governor stated.
Aiyedatiwa noted that the incident occurred approximately three to four months ago and that investigations are still ongoing to determine the motive behind the alleged bombing plot.
The governor said the development underscores the extensive but often unseen efforts of security agencies in preventing attacks before they occur.
“Security is one responsibility that leaders carry that is not so visible to everybody. It is only when there is a lapse that it will look as if the government has not been doing enough. We have been doing so much,” he said.
He also welcomed the recent conviction of four individuals linked to the June 5, 2022 attack on St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, describing the court’s decision as a significant step toward justice for the victims and their families.
The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening security across the state and supporting efforts aimed at preventing violent attacks and protecting residents.
