A dynamite explosion at the Action Peoples Party (APP) Secretariat in Port Harcourt early Monday has ignited speculation about a possible political shift involving Rivers State Governor Siminialayi Fubara.
The attack, which occurred in the Government Reserved Area (GRA), has heightened tensions in the state’s political landscape.
The incident has intensified rumors that Governor Fubara and his supporters are considering leaving their current party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to join the APP. This speculation follows recent renovations at the APP Secretariat, which many have interpreted as preparations for high-profile new members.
The explosion caused significant damage to the APP Secretariat, raising concerns among party members and the public. According to sources, the attack may be linked to dissatisfaction with the governor’s potential departure from the PDP. Critics claim that Fubara’s alleged plans to defect could be a response to perceived dominance by former Governor Nyesom Wike and his allies within the PDP.
“There has been considerable talk that the Governor and his supporters are looking to shift allegiance to the APP due to dissatisfaction with the current PDP leadership,” a source told The Nation.
“The bombing seems to be a reaction to these political maneuvers.”
Despite the swirling rumors, Governor Fubara has yet to officially declare any plans to leave the PDP. Nonetheless, he has openly criticized the party, alleging that it has not effectively addressed the needs of the state.
