Posters promoting the former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, as the potential national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have inundated Abuja just forty-eight hours after he left office.

The eye-catching posters were prominently displayed on major streets in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), particularly around the Federal Secretariat and the vicinity of the APC national secretariat along Blantyre Street, Wuse 2, Abuja.

Featuring a picture of Yahaya Bello, the posters carried the inscription, “APC Next Level. Alhaji Yahaya Bello as APC National Chairman. Leading the Change, Building a Stronger APC.”

Sources within the party revealed that the move to replace the incumbent chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, is gaining momentum from various quarters, both within and outside the APC. It appears to be part of a broader strategy orchestrated by elements within the party, particularly from the North Central zone, aimed at regaining the national chairmanship seat lost to the North West, the region from which Ganduje hails.

A party insider, speaking on condition of anonymity, disclosed, “Bello’s move is an attempt to bring back the chairmanship seat to the region, and it is believed he has the backing of several stakeholders in the North-central.”

Notably, the current national chairman of the APC is Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who assumed office following his election at the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on August 3, 2023, succeeding Abdullahi Adamu, who had resigned from the position. The emergence of Yahaya Bello’s posters signals a potential power shift within the APC leadership and sets the stage for a dynamic and competitive political landscape in the coming months.
