Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has accused governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress of allegedly diverting public resources to support President Bola Tinubu’s reported 2027 re-election plans.
Atiku, through a statement issued on Wednesday by his media aide, Paul Ibe, alleged that the Tinubu administration was working closely with APC governors to channel state resources into accounts purportedly created for political mobilisation ahead of the next general election.
According to the former vice president, funds meant for governance and the welfare of Nigerians were instead being redirected for campaign purposes, a situation he said was worsening economic hardship and insecurity across the country.
“The Tinubu-led APC administration is in cahoots with APC governors to divert your resources to dedicated accounts for Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign,” Atiku stated.
He argued that the alleged diversion of public funds was partly responsible for the current economic challenges facing Nigerians, including rising poverty and deepening social tensions.
Atiku further claimed that the growing disagreements within the APC governors’ camp were connected to disputes over the handling and sharing of the alleged funds.
The former presidential candidate also cautioned Nigerians against supporting the ruling party in future elections, warning that citizens would bear the consequences if the current administration is returned to power despite prevailing economic difficulties.
He maintained that public resources should be used to address governance challenges and improve citizens’ welfare rather than being deployed for political campaigns.
