President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally presented a certificate to Vice President Kashim Shettima, confirming him as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The presentation took place on Thursday at the President’s office inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The development was made public by presidential media aide, Dada Olusegun, who shared a video of the moment on his 𝕏 account.
Announcing the development, Olusegun wrote: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu presents certificate to Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate in 2027 election.”
The video, which has since attracted reactions online, captures President Tinubu handing the certificate to Shettima during the brief ceremony at the Presidential Villa.
The latest development follows the APC’s official confirmation of Shettima as Tinubu’s running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
The ruling party announced the presidential ticket during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Abuja last Friday. The meeting was attended by members of the APC National Working Committee (NWC), led by the party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, as well as members of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), chaired by Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma.
Speaking at the gathering, the President’s Special Adviser on Political Matters, Ibrahim Kabir Masari, formally unveiled Tinubu and Shettima as the APC’s presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the 2027 general election.
Masari declared that President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima are the APC’s presidential and vice-presidential candidates, respectively, for the 2027 election.
Also affirming the decision, APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, reiterated the party’s endorsement of the Tinubu-Shettima ticket.
Yilwatda confirmed that the APC had resolved to field President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima as its presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the 2027 presidential race.
The presentation of the certificate is seen as another step in formalising the ruling party’s preparations ahead of the next general election.
