The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it will make available the personal particulars of candidates seeking election into the offices of President and the National Assembly for the 2027 general elections.

According to the commission, the documents will be displayed for public inspection at INEC offices across the country on Saturday, August 1, 2026.

INEC said the exercise is part of the electoral process aimed at promoting transparency and allowing members of the public to examine the credentials and other submitted particulars of candidates contesting the elections.

A brief notice issued by the commission stated:

“The personal particulars of all 2027 presidential candidates and National Assembly candidates will be available for public inspection at INEC offices nationwide on Saturday, August 1, 2026.”

The commission did not immediately provide additional details on the duration of the inspection period or the specific categories of documents that would be displayed.

Under Nigeria’s electoral framework, the publication of candidates’ personal particulars allows citizens, political parties and other stakeholders to scrutinise information submitted by candidates and raise any objections where necessary within the period stipulated by law.

INEC urged interested members of the public to visit its offices nationwide to participate in the inspection process.

“The exercise is for public inspection and will be conducted at INEC offices nationwide,” the commission stated.

Further details on the exercise are expected to be released by the electoral body.
