Tension erupted in Rivers State today as the celebration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s Supreme Court victory in Ahoada West Local Government Area was disrupted by political thugs, causing chaos at the original venue.

Governor Fubara’s supporters had gathered in the council area to commemorate the recent Supreme Court victory, but the event faced interference from some youths believed to be acting on instructions from the Council Chairman. These individuals reportedly damaged canopies and chairs at the initial location, forcing the celebration to be relocated.

The disrupted event later took place successfully at an alternative venue, where the Council Chairman, Hope Ikiriko, addressed the allegations and clarified the situation. Despite the initial setbacks, the rally proceeded smoothly, as reported by Channels Television.

Chairman Ikiriko spoke to journalists about the development, stating, “We are aware that the state government has done theirs at the state level; it is important that we also domesticate it by having our thanksgiving here in the local government.” He urged the attendees to conduct themselves appropriately and assured them of efforts to maintain peace during the program.

Despite attempts by hooligans to disrupt the event by damaging property at the initial venue, the turnout remained significant. Notable figures, including past and present lawmakers, commissioners, and the representative of Governor Fubara, were in attendance.

Sokari Goodboy, the leader of Governor Fubara’s supporters in Ahoada West, and a loyal Assembly member, called upon the presidency and the police high command to take note of the provocative actions. Governor Fubara’s representative, Evans Bipi, advised the crowd not to be intimidated by rumors of potential suspension from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and other threats.

In a show of support for Governor Fubara, the celebration also welcomed defectors from the opposition party into the PDP. The festivities to commemorate the governor’s Supreme Court victory have been ongoing throughout the state, featuring street processions and open-air thanksgiving services organized by supporters.
