In response to the tragic killing of 16 soldiers in Delta State, the Nigerian military has initiated new measures to address the situation. The soldiers were attacked while on a peace and rescue mission in the Okuama community of Ughelli South Local Government Area.
Reports indicate that the military has deployed armoured vehicles to Bomadi, the headquarters of Bomadi Local Government Area, as part of its response strategy. Sources reveal that military personnel, accompanied by multiple armoured vehicles, were observed crossing the Bomadi Bridge, possibly en route to the creeks where the incident occurred.
The soldiers, who were previously stationed in Okuama, have reportedly intensified their operations in the area, including the demolition of houses. According to community sources, the military presence remains strong in Okuama, with ongoing demolition activities indicating a sustained operation.
Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu has condemned the attack on the soldiers, vowing that the perpetrators will face justice. The incident, which resulted in the death of a lieutenant colonel, two majors, one captain, and 12 soldiers, has sparked outrage and calls for swift action.
In a statement released on Sunday, Tinubu described the killing of the soldiers as a despicable act, emphasizing that it constitutes a direct assault on the nation. He announced that the Chief of Defence Staff has been empowered to ensure that those responsible for the “unconscionable crime” are swiftly brought to justice.
