Nigeria is under scrutiny as it is speculated to have signed the contentious EU-ACP Agreement on November 15, 2023. The agreement, if ratified, is believed to advocate for LGBTQ ideologies in the country, sparking concerns about the potential impact on Nigerian parenting values and childhood sexuality culture.

The EU-ACP Agreement, with a binding duration of 20 years, is set to reintroduce Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) into schools, despite previous outrage from parents due to the perceived sexualizing content associated with CSE.

Sonny A. Kosi, Chairman of the Human Rights Committee, expressed reservations about certain provisions in the deal that seem to contradict Nigeria’s deeply rooted values. Kosi raised concerns about the subtle promotion of LGBTQ ideology in a country where such ideas are often at odds with philosophical, communal, and religious norms. He further highlighted the limited time given to parliamentarians for a thorough scrutiny of the treaty before the scheduled signing.

Notably, Ghana and Namibia are reported to have rejected signing the agreement, further emphasizing the controversial nature of the EU-ACP deal and the differing stances among African nations.
