Youth members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have issued a 74-hour ultimatum to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), demanding immediate action over disputes surrounding the party’s leadership.
The ultimatum was announced on Thursday during a peaceful protest held in Katsina State under the banner “Amupitan Must Go.” The demonstration was led by Jamilu Yahaya, with participants marching along Daura Road before converging at the INEC state office, where they submitted a formal petition.
In their letter, the protesters urged INEC to reinstate the leadership structure headed by David Mark on its official portal. They also called on the commission to publicly apologise to Nigerians over actions they claim have disrupted constitutional order within the party.
The group further insisted that INEC must refrain from recognising communications, pending motions, or internal party processes that lack definitive court rulings. According to the youths, strict neutrality by the electoral body is essential to maintaining credibility in party affairs.
They warned that recent developments linked to INEC’s handling of the ADC leadership dispute could undermine preparations for the party’s upcoming national convention and cast doubt on the commission’s impartiality.
The protesters cautioned that failure to address their demands within the stipulated timeframe could lead to broader, lawful civic actions nationwide.
Responding on behalf of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, the Administrative Secretary of INEC in Katsina, Ibrahim Dari, acknowledged receipt of the petition and assured the demonstrators that their concerns would be communicated to the appropriate authorities for review.
