Suspected Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgents have launched another attack in Borno State, setting fire to educational facilities in Kautikari village, located in Chibok Local Government Area.
Sources familiar with the incident said the attackers stormed the community at about 7 p.m. on Saturday and targeted both a primary school and a day secondary school, leaving residents scrambling for safety.
Although no deaths or injuries were reported, the assault forced many villagers to flee into surrounding bushes as panic spread across the community.
“No casualty so far but residents were forced to flee into the bush for safety,” a security source disclosed.
Residents expressed shock over the destruction of the schools, noting that the community has endured repeated attacks from insurgents over the years, but assaults on educational facilities are uncommon.
“I wonder why they set ablaze the Primary School and Day Secondary School. Such attacks are unusual,” a resident lamented.
The attack adds to growing concerns about the security situation in parts of Borno State, where communities continue to face threats from insurgent groups despite ongoing military operations in the region.
Attempts to obtain an official response from the Borno State Police Command were unsuccessful, as the spokesperson, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, could not be reached at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has described insecurity as the most difficult challenge he has confronted since taking office in 2019.
Speaking during a visit by stakeholders from Gubio Local Government Area and APC governorship hopeful Mustapha Gubio, the governor reflected on the sacrifices required to address the state’s security and humanitarian crises.
According to Zulum, the early days of his administration were particularly demanding, revealing that he saw his children only three times during his first 55 days in office due to the pressures of governance and insecurity.
Despite the challenges, the governor expressed optimism, stating that the situation in the state is gradually improving.
