Vice President Kashim Shettima on Thursday led a delegation of governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other party leaders to submit President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s nomination and expression of interest forms to the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
Among those who accompanied the Vice President were the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, and member of the House of Representatives, James Faleke, among other APC chieftains.
The submission comes as the ruling party prepares for its presidential primary ahead of the next general election, with the APC adopting the indirect primary method to elect its presidential candidate.
Speaking shortly before the submission of the forms, APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, said the party’s decision to endorse President Tinubu for a second term was driven by the administration’s developmental strides and reform initiatives.
According to him, the endorsement was aimed at ensuring continuity and sustaining the policies already initiated by the current administration.
“The numerous developmental initiatives of President Tinubu’s administration informed the decision of the APC National Working Committee to endorse him for a second term to guarantee continuity,” Yilwatda stated.
After formally submitting the nomination forms, Vice President Shettima expressed confidence in the administration’s direction, assuring Nigerians that better days lie ahead.
He said the Tinubu-led government would continue to build on the achievements recorded so far.
“Nigerians should remain hopeful because this administration will consolidate on the gains achieved so far and deliver more dividends of democracy to the people,” Shettima said.
