In the aftermath of the recent Presidential Election Petition Tribunal’s decision, Peter Obi, the candidate representing the Labour Party in the 2023 presidential election, has declared his intention to contest the outcome of the election at the Supreme Court.
Obi expressed his determination to seek justice after his petition against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was dismissed by the tribunal.
The presidential tribunal rendered its verdict on Wednesday, September 6, wherein it dismissed Obi’s petition and upheld the declaration made by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding the February 25 election results. In his petition, Obi had vigorously pursued a declaration of victory for himself while also seeking Tinubu’s disqualification on various grounds, all of which were ultimately rejected by the tribunal.
In a press conference held in Onitsha, Anambra State, on Thursday, Peter Obi made it clear that he would not back down in his pursuit of justice. The former Governor affirmed his determination to appeal the tribunal’s decision, indicating that his quest for fairness and transparency in the electoral process remained unwavering.
The stage is now set for what promises to be a significant legal battle as Peter Obi takes his case to the nation’s highest court, the Supreme Court, in his continued efforts to challenge the victory of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election.
