Olusola Ebiseni, a former governorship hopeful under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has officially left the party and has now become the Labour Party (LP) candidate for the November 2024 Ondo State governorship election.
Ebiseni, referring to his move to the Labour Party as a “homecoming,” was joined by Dayo Awude, a former commissioner for Youth and Sports in Ondo State, who has been selected as his running mate.
In Akure, the state capital, Ebiseni addressed journalists alongside key members of the Labour Party’s National Transition Committee (NTC), including Comrade Abdul Waheed Omar, Dr. Kingsley Okundaye, Prof. Theophilus Ndubuaku, and Folu Bademosi. He emphasized that his candidacy aligns with the provisions of the Electoral Act.
“I am back home. We are here to deliver for the people of Ondo State. The Labour Party has been behind every significant development project in the state. While others have allowed internal conflicts to weaken leadership, we are here to restore order and bring a new beginning to our state,” Ebiseni declared.
He praised the Labour Party as one of Nigeria’s leading political forces and expressed optimism about the party’s prospects in the upcoming election.
Outlining his vision for Ondo State, Ebiseni highlighted the state’s rich resources, including its status as the fifth-largest oil-producing state, its extensive coastline, abundant forests, agricultural resources, and mineral deposits. He also emphasized the importance of leveraging the state’s well-trained and impartial civil service for comprehensive development.
Ebiseni further stated, “I am answering the call of the people of Ondo State by offering myself for service under the Labour Party, whose symbol of a united family coincidentally reflects the meaning of my name, Ebiseni.”
He concluded by noting that the Labour Party is well-established in Ondo State, with many of its leaders, including his running mate and himself, having served the state in various capacities across different political platforms.
