The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has ruled against the federal government of Nigeria, awarding a cost of N100 million for violating the right to personal liberty of the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.
Justice Olukayode Adeniyi issued the ruling on Monday while presiding over a fundamental right enforcement suit filed by Emefiele. The suit challenged his unlawful detention by agents of the federal government, including the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
