Nigerian music star Davido used his appearance at the FIFA World Cup Countdown Concert in Los Angeles to draw international attention to the plight of dozens of students and teachers abducted by terrorists in Oyo State.
The award-winning singer delivered a high-energy performance at the concert held at the Crypto.com Arena on Wednesday night, but beyond the music, he used the global platform to advocate for the safe return of the victims.
Davido appeared on stage wearing a specially designed jacket dedicated to the 39 students and seven teachers kidnapped in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, on May 15. The outfit featured green badges bearing the names of the victims, while a bold message emblazoned across the back read, “Bring Them Home.”
Ahead of his performance, the singer expressed sympathy for the affected families and called for urgent action to secure the release of those still in captivity.
“May God be with the families of the abducted and the ones that have been killed. It’s just a very, very sad situation,” Davido said.
He lamented the prolonged ordeal of the victims and their families, adding, “They still haven’t been rescued. We are praying to God every day and also praying to God that the government hastens up with their rescue.”
The Afrobeats star also reflected on the broader challenges facing Nigeria, saying, “My country is going through a lot. It’s sad.”
Davido’s gesture has drawn attention to the security challenges in parts of Nigeria, with many commending the singer for using an international stage to amplify calls for the rescue of the abducted students and teachers.
