Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has credited President Bola Tinubu’s leadership for the infrastructure progress recorded in the nation’s capital, declaring that Nigerians owe the president a debt of gratitude.

Wike made the assertion Tuesday during the commissioning of newly completed access roads in Sector Centre B, Dakibiyu District, where he emphasized the transformative impact of what he described as “right leadership” on development outcomes.

The former Rivers State governor attributed the successful completion of multiple road projects directly to the president’s guidance and support. “By [Mr. President’s] leadership all the roads here have now been completed and in the next few months we will be here again. The Court of Appeal Division will soon be inaugurated by Mr President,” Wike announced.

Drawing a broader connection between leadership quality and development results, the minister argued that Tinubu’s approach has enabled his administration to exceed expectations. “I have always said that when you have the right leadership you can achieve unexpected results. Tinubu has shown the right leadership and that is why we are able to achieve. Talking about the achievement we have made, it is because of the right leadership,” he stated.

Wike painted a vivid picture of the transformation in the Dakibiyu District, suggesting the improvements would be barely recognizable to those familiar with the area’s previous condition. “I’m sure all those who walk around this place will begin to reminisce over, was this where we used to walk? This is the Dakibiyu District that we used to come to?” he asked rhetorically.

The minister acknowledged ongoing criticism of the administration but insisted that maintaining focus on tangible deliverables would ultimately vindicate the government’s efforts. “Nigerians, we owe a lot to the president and I have always said, yes tongues will wag but when you are focused you will achieve results,” Wike declared.

His comments reflect the administration’s strategy of highlighting infrastructure development as evidence of effective governance, particularly as it faces various criticisms on economic and policy fronts. The minister’s public praise of Tinubu also reinforces his position as one of the president’s most vocal supporters within the cabinet, despite his previous affiliation with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.

The commissioned roads in Dakibiyu District represent part of a broader infrastructure push across the FCT, with Wike promising additional project inaugurations in the coming months.
