French President Emmanuel Macron has hosted Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to a private dinner at the Élysée Palace in Paris.
The meeting took place on Thursday, September 17, 2026, during Tinubu’s ongoing stay in France as part of his three-week annual leave in Europe. The development was disclosed on Friday by Dada Olusegun, Special Assistant to the President on Social Media.
Olusegun, in a post on X, confirmed the private engagement between the two leaders.
He wrote, “French President @EmmanuelMacron hosted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a private dinner last night at the Élysée Palace.”
Tinubu arrived in Paris on Sunday, September 13, 2026, to continue his European holiday after spending the first part of his leave in London. He was received on arrival by Nigeria’s Ambassador to France, Ayodele Oke.
The President had departed Abuja on August 30, 2026, for the three-week vacation, which began in London, according to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The statement said Tinubu was expected to return to Nigeria at the end of his leave and resume activities ahead of the January 2027 general election.
Onanuga had stated, “President Tinubu is expected to return home after the working vacation to join the hectic campaign for the January 2027 election.”
The private dinner with Macron comes as Tinubu continues his stay in France before returning to Nigeria at the end of his scheduled leave.
