Several parts of Abuja and neighbouring communities are set to experience a six-hour power outage on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) carries out planned maintenance work.
The outage is linked to the annual maintenance of TCN’s 132/33kV Katampe 1 Transmission Substation, scheduled to take place between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
In a notice, TCN said the exercise was necessary to maintain the transmission infrastructure and ensure reliable electricity supply.
“The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) wishes to inform the public that an annual maintenance exercise will be carried out at its 132/33kV Katampe 1 Transmission Substation on Tuesday, 8th September 2026, from 10:00am to 4:00pm,” the company stated.
As a result of the maintenance, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will be unable to supply electricity to several areas connected to the affected transmission facility during the maintenance period.
Areas expected to experience the disruption include Dawaki, Gwarinpa, Dutse Alhaji, parts of Kubwa, Arab Road, Bwari, Mopol Barracks, parts of Jiwa, Suleja Township, FCT College of Education, Field Base, Madalla and Zuba, among other neighbouring communities.
Residents and businesses in the affected areas are expected to experience the outage throughout the six-hour maintenance window, after which electricity supply is expected to resume.
