The Presidency has dismissed reports claiming that the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd.), is planning to resign from office, describing the speculation as false.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, clarified the matter in a statement on Wednesday, stressing that the Defence Minister remains fully committed to his responsibilities and the implementation of Nigeria’s defence strategy.
According to Onanuga, General Musa has no intention of stepping down and continues to focus on tackling the country’s security challenges.
“General Musa is not resigning as Defence Minister. General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd.) remains fully focused on his national security mandate, deeply committed to his duties, and completely dedicated to piloting the nation’s defence strategy, with results already being seen,” Onanuga said.
The Presidency’s clarification follows widespread reports suggesting that the Defence Minister was preparing to leave his position.
Earlier, Musa had personally dismissed the reports while speaking to journalists at the Presidential Villa after briefing President Bola Tinubu on the nation’s security situation.
He described the claims as unfounded, insisting that he had never discussed resigning with anyone.
The minister also warned that those responsible for circulating the false reports could face legal action.
General Musa was appointed Minister of Defence in December 2025 after serving as Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff. He succeeded Mohammed Badaru Abubakar in the cabinet role.
