The pupils and teachers abducted in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State have regained their freedom after spending more than 50 days in the custody of their kidnappers.
The development was announced on Friday by the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who disclosed that security operatives successfully secured the victims’ release.
Sharing the update via his X account, Onanuga praised the efforts of security agencies involved in the operation.
He wrote, “Finally, the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Orire, Oyo have been freed by their abductors. The kidnapped pupils and teachers in Orire, Oyo have been rescued by Security Forces.”
He added, “One of the rescued teachers in Oyo sends a thank you message to President Tinubu and the security agencies.”
The release of the victims brings relief to their families and residents of the community, who had anxiously awaited positive news since the abduction more than seven weeks ago.
