Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, on Wednesday joined members and supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in a protest in Abuja, voicing strong opposition to recent actions by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The demonstration follows a deepening leadership crisis within the ADC, which has divided the party and escalated internal tensions. The situation worsened after INEC withdrew its recognition of a faction of the party leadership reportedly headed by David Mark, triggering fresh controversy.

Atiku, who participated in the protest alongside other party stakeholders, described the action as peaceful and necessary to defend democratic principles. In a statement shared via his X account, he accused the electoral body of partisanship and warned against actions that could undermine Nigeria’s democratic system.

He stated that the protest was aimed at protecting the integrity of the country’s democracy and preventing what he called the emergence of authoritarian rule.

The ADC crisis continues to draw national attention, with political observers closely monitoring developments and the response of INEC to the growing backlash.
