The Plateau State Government has confirmed the arrest of individuals who allegedly threatened to carry out attacks in Jos following the Ramadan period.

The State Commissioner for Information, Joyce Ramnap, disclosed this during an interview on Arise Television, stating that security agencies had acted on prior threats linked to the recent violence in the area.

Her comments come after a deadly assault on the Angwan Rukuba community in Jos North Local Government Area, where at least 20 people were killed and several others injured after gunmen invaded the area on Sunday.

Ramnap emphasized that the government would not ignore intelligence on impending attacks, noting that proactive steps were taken once the threats surfaced.

“No government will be aware of planned attacks and choose to remain silent,” she said, confirming that those who publicly issued warnings about post-Ramadan violence had been apprehended.

She stressed that addressing insecurity requires a coordinated effort among multiple institutions, explaining that while arrests are carried out by the police, investigations and prosecutions follow established legal and judicial processes.

According to her, the police hierarchy has already shown commitment to the case, revealing that a Deputy Inspector-General of Police recently visited Plateau State. During the visit, Governor Caleb Mutfwang reiterated the need for thorough investigations and successful prosecution of suspects.

Ramnap added that the state government is expecting further arrests as investigations continue, expressing hope that the combined efforts of security agencies and the judiciary would deliver justice and contribute to lasting peace in the state.
