Akwa Ibom State Governor Pastor Umo Eno has announced a significant welfare enhancement for young people from the state, introducing a monthly allowance of ₦20,000 for all National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members of Akwa Ibom origin serving throughout Nigeria.

The announcement was made public through a Government House statement released Tuesday, following deliberations at the State Executive Council meeting on Monday.

Set to commence on August 1, 2025, this new financial support program follows the governor’s recent decision to quadruple the existing stipend for NYSC members serving within Akwa Ibom State from ₦5,000 to ₦20,000 monthly.

Governor Eno positioned the initiative as a key component of his administration’s “Renewed Hope – ARISE Youth Support Initiative,” designed to reduce financial pressures on young people and improve their quality of life during service.

“This decision aligns with the Renewed Hope, ARISE Youth Support Initiative. It is intended to cushion living expenses and promote the well-being of corps members,” the official statement explained.

The government indicated that the allowance program will undergo regular assessment based on economic conditions and other relevant factors that may arise.

Beyond financial support, Governor Eno has authorized the reconstruction of the NYSC Orientation Camp located in Ikot Itie Idung, Nsit Atai Local Government Area, demonstrating a comprehensive approach to improving corps members’ service experience.

State officials described the measures as reflecting the governor’s inclusive leadership approach and strategic commitment to youth development and national progress.

“Corps members have continued to play key roles in education, healthcare, agriculture, and rural development. Their welfare is central to the growth of these sectors,” the government statement noted.

The administration emphasized Akwa Ibom’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s safest and most welcoming states for NYSC members, with continued commitment to maintaining a supportive environment for national service activities.
