The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has reportedly met with the suspended members of the Rivers State House of Assembly in the United Kingdom, in the midst of mounting political tension in the state.
A video circulating on social media platform X shows Wike hosting the lawmakers to a private dinner, further fueling speculation over his continued influence in Rivers politics despite the Assembly’s suspension and ongoing calls for a state of emergency in the state.
According to multiple media reports, the lawmakers were led on the UK visit by the Speaker of the Assembly, Martins Amaewhule. The visit comes at a time when political instability in Rivers has raised concerns across the country, following months of power tussle between opposing factions within the state government.
In a statement released by the Speaker’s Special Assistant, the meeting with the FCT Minister was described as an opportunity for the lawmakers to gain “fresh insights” that would contribute to enhancing legislative practices and governance back home.
