President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has honored the late Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, with the prestigious national title of Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR).
The posthumous award was formally announced during the military chief’s funeral held on Friday, November 15, at the National Cemetery in Mogadishu, Abuja.
In a heartfelt tribute, President Tinubu described General Lagbaja as a dependable leader and strategic thinker who consistently placed the nation and his troops above all else.
“His dedication to service remains a lasting legacy,” Tinubu remarked. “As a mark of our collective gratitude, I have conferred upon the late Chief of Army Staff the posthumous honor of Commander of the Federal Republic.”
Reflecting on Lagbaja’s tenure, the president praised his exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to the Nigerian Armed Forces, describing him as one of his most commendable appointments.
“Though we mourn his untimely passing, we celebrate a life of courage and sacrifice,” Tinubu continued. “Let us honor his memory by recommitting ourselves to the values and patriotism he so passionately upheld. General Lagbaja’s name will forever be etched among the legends of our military history.”
The president also highlighted Lagbaja’s profound understanding of the military’s role in protecting Nigeria’s constitutional democracy and his relentless efforts to improve the welfare of soldiers under his command.
General Lagbaja’s contributions to the nation, Tinubu noted, serve as an enduring example of valor, dedication, and selfless service.
