President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has expressed concern over Nigeria’s stability, stating that he regularly prays for the country to overcome its challenges for the benefit of the wider West African region.

Speaking during an award ceremony, Mahama emphasized the strategic importance of a stable and prosperous Nigeria, noting that its success directly impacts neighboring countries, including Ghana.

According to him, Nigeria’s progress would help curb economic migration pressures on smaller nations in the region. He remarked that with Nigeria’s large population, instability could drive significant numbers of people to seek opportunities elsewhere, particularly in Ghana.

Mahama said he hopes Nigeria can “get its act together,” stressing that a thriving Nigeria contributes to regional security and economic balance. He added that he personally prays for the country’s success, describing Nigeria as a key partner whose well-being is closely tied to Ghana’s own development.

The Ghanaian leader’s comments highlight ongoing concerns about regional interdependence in West Africa, where economic and political developments in one country often have ripple effects across borders.
