The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has leveled accusations against Governor Siminalayi Fubara, alleging his involvement in a scheme to obtain a court order invalidating the current State House of Assembly. Tony Okocha, the APC caretaker committee chairman in the state, made these allegations while addressing journalists in Port Harcourt on Thursday.

Okocha asserted that the contemplated court order also aimed to nullify all laws vetoed by the Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule-led House against the governor. He further highlighted Fubara’s purported intention to utilize the interim order as a basis for appointing caretaker committees to oversee the 23 local government areas in the state.

“I want to use this opportunity to inform Rivers people and Nigerians of the move by the governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, to procure interim orders from judges that I will not name here, but I will put in my petition to the NJC,” Okocha stated.

Detailing the alleged intentions behind Fubara’s actions, Okocha emphasized, “He is doing that so that he will now leverage on the interim order to go ahead to appoint caretaker committees for local government councils against the warning of the man he says he respects, the President.”

Expressing vehement opposition to these purported moves, Okocha asserted the commitment of the APC to resist any negative actions that could undermine the integrity of Rivers State. He stressed that the state should not be subjected to such schemes orchestrated by a single individual.

In his closing remarks, Okocha reiterated, “Rivers State cannot be turned to a pariah state because of the actions of one person. Rivers State is a state to be reckoned with in the comity of states, duly respected and regarded.”

These accusations highlight the escalating tensions within the political landscape of Rivers State, as various parties vie for power and influence. As the situation unfolds, observers await further developments and responses from relevant authorities.
