The Federal Government has unveiled plans to integrate the Almajiri system into the national school feeding program, aiming to ensure adequate nutrition for schoolchildren across the nation.

This announcement was made by Dr. Yetunde Adeniji, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Home-Grown School Feeding, during a courtesy visit to the Jigawa State Governor.

Dr. Adeniji’s visit aimed to brief Governor Umar Namadi on the expansion of the national school feeding program to encompass Almajiri schools. She emphasized President Tinubu’s commitment to ensuring proper nourishment for schoolchildren nationwide.

In response, Governor Namadi expressed appreciation for the visit and extended gratitude to President Tinubu for agreeing to sustain the program. He commended the success and benefits of the school feeding initiative in Jigawa State, pledging full support for its continuation.

Governor Namadi affirmed, “In Jigawa, we recognize the value of the program and eagerly anticipate its return.”

Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep Benjamin Okezie Kalu, highlighted the parliament’s efforts to amend the Access to Higher Education Act 2023. The amendment aims to provide equal opportunities for all Nigerian children to access university education, irrespective of their economic circumstances.

Kalu stressed the importance of addressing challenges in accessing quality education, citing initiatives like the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (Tetfund) and ongoing legislative amendments. He emphasized the need for inclusivity and equity in higher education, advocating for skills acquisition over certificates and promoting the role of technology in addressing societal issues.

Kalu urged collaboration between academia, government, and industry to drive progress and prosperity, underscoring the significance of collective efforts in advancing education and national development.
