In a recent interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Enemi Alabo, a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly, provided insights into the recent defection of lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking on Monday, Alabo pointed to internal divisions within the PDP as a primary factor motivating the defection. He highlighted a lack of clarity regarding the party’s leadership, which, according to him, has compounded the challenges faced by PDP members in Rivers State. These challenges include the burning of the assembly chambers and instances of intimidation.
Expressing frustration, Alabo stated that efforts to establish communication with the PDP secretariat had proven unsuccessful. He outlined the existing division within the party, referencing ongoing court cases related to the party’s secretariat.
“We have a division in the PDP. We have cases in court concerning the secretariat of our party. We desperately tried to reach the secretariat of our party, and we could not. As I speak to you, I can’t tell you who the secretary of my party is,” the lawmaker revealed.
The statement sheds light on the internal strife within the Rivers State PDP, contributing to the decision of some members to defect to the APC. The issues raised by Alabo underscore the need for resolution and unity within the party to address the concerns of its members.
