In a bid to mitigate the impact of the recent fuel subsidy removal, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has directed the disbursement of a monthly allowance of N15,000 to all civil servants in the state. Additionally, the governor has approved a monthly relief of N10,000 for pensioners to alleviate the challenges arising from the subsidy removal.
The official circular, issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Capacity Building and dated November 28th, 2023, carries the reference number BHR&CB/08/LIR/23 and is signed by the Permanent Secretary, Sunday Fadele. Addressed to all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), the circular is titled “Implementation of Palliatives for Active Workers and Pensioners in Osun State.”
According to the circular, the decision follows negotiation meetings with the labor movement in the state, culminating in Governor Adeleke’s approval of the specified amounts. The monthly payment of N15,000 for active workers and N10,000 for pensioners is slated to commence from December 2023 and will extend for a period of six months.
The circular expresses gratitude to Osun State workers and pensioners for their understanding and support of the government’s efforts over the past year to enhance their welfare, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to prioritizing the well-being of its workforce.
In a statement, the circular highlights, “Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, has graciously approved the monthly payment of N15,000.00 to each active worker and N10,000.00 to each pensioner in Osun State as palliatives to assuage the pains being experienced as a result of the removal of petroleum subsidy by the Federal Government of Nigeria.”
The relief measure is set to serve as an encouragement for workers in the state to remain diligent and committed to their duties. Governor Adeleke’s administration affirms its ongoing dedication to meeting the welfare needs of the workforce, in line with its 5-Point Action Plan, as it continues to navigate challenges and prioritize the well-being of its citizens.
