The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has provided an update on the health status of the former Lagos State governor, revealing that Tinubu is still in the process of recuperating from knee surgery he underwent in London in 2021.

In an interview with the Nigerian Tribune, Onanuga emphasized that President Tinubu is not facing any additional health challenges besides the knee surgery. He clarified that the knee surgery was conducted prior to the commencement of the general election campaign.

Onanuga stated, “No, he was not sick. We made this clear to Nigerians. Tinubu was as fit as a fiddle in the run-up to that election. Before that campaign began, I think a year before, he went for knee surgery, which was not a secret as President Buhari even went to see him in London when he was recuperating.”

He further explained, “So, that was what he went to do – knee surgery. That was why he could not walk properly. When you do knee surgery, you cannot be walking like a 25-year-old man. He is still nursing it up till now because it was a major surgery. It is not that he has any other ailment.”

The clarification comes amid public speculation and concern about Tinubu’s health, with Onanuga’s statement aiming to dispel any misinformation regarding the President’s well-being. The adviser highlighted that the knee surgery was a significant procedure, and Tinubu continues to manage the recovery process.

Tinubu’s presence in Nigerian politics has been noteworthy, and this update on his health aims to reassure the public about his condition as he continues the recuperation journey from the mentioned surgery.
