Pa Reuben Fasoranti, the leader of the Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to intervene in the political crisis surrounding the move to impeach the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Hon Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

In a communique issued after an emergency meeting held at Pa Fasoranti’s house in Akure, concerns were raised about the political logjam in Ondo State, where Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu is reportedly on medical grounds, and the Deputy Governor, who should act in his absence, is embattled.

Fasoranti expressed worry about the prolonged absence of the Governor, citing its impact on social and economic activities in the state. The communique urged traditional, religious, and professional leaders, market women, the academia, and other stakeholders to deliberate on finding a way forward.

The resolution, signed by Pa Fasoranti and Dr. Bakitta Bello, highlighted the challenges arising from misinformation about the Governor’s health and the lack of communication between the Governor and his Deputy, leading to the Deputy’s inability to perform constitutional duties.

They said “Absence and non-active participation of Ondo State in National affairs due to the lingering crisis; foreseeable problems of late preparation of the 2024 Budget by the Executive Arm for the customary timely presentation to the State House of Assembly”

The Elder Statesmen expressed displeasure over the failure of the ruling party and the executive arm of government to address the matter before it escalated. They noted the confusion and helplessness of civil and public servants in the state due to the absence of appropriate directives.

The communique called for prayers for Akeredolu’s improved health and emphasized the need for all stakeholders to follow the rule of law. The Elder Statesmen appealed to President Tinubu to intervene and prevent a breakdown of law and order in Ondo State.

In conclusion, they urged unelected persons to allow the three arms of government to find a lasting solution to the crisis and called on the State and National Leadership of the APC to provide guidance and ensure discipline among their members.

“All unelected persons should allow the three arms of government to find lasting solution to the current crisis.
The rule of law should be followed by all stakeholders as enshrined in Nigeria’s constitution.”
