The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced its intention to charge some operatives of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) who attempted to free suspected fraudsters at the Kaduna command of the agency.
In a statement by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, it was revealed that the accused NAF officers, including Lawal Abdullahi, Chukwuma Chidi Christian, Alfa Suleiman, Emmanuel Ekwozor, Chidera Anuba, and Joseph Tokula, would face charges in court once the investigation is concluded.
The statement reads: “The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) personnel released on administrative bail by the Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Friday, November 17, 2023, will be charged to court at the conclusion of the ongoing investigation.
“The officers were released to their Service in strict adherence to the bail procedures of the Commission.
“The Commission reiterates the fact that no one is above the law and the due process will be followed in bringing the case to a conclusion.”
The arrests were made after credible intelligence led EFCC operatives to apprehend five suspects – NAF officers Favour Itung, Rachael Ande, Zuleiman Haruna, Abubakar Ismaila, and Solomon Olobatoke – at an eatery in Kaduna. Subsequently, NAF operatives allegedly stormed the EFCC office in an attempt to free the suspects.
Oyewale emphasized that no one is above the law, and due process will be followed in bringing the case to a conclusion.
