In a surge of interest, no fewer than 288,266 Nigerian youths have completed their online applications for the constable cadre of the Nigeria Police Force, according to the Police Service Commission (PSC).

This wave of applications unfolded just nine days after the recruitment portal opened on October 15, 2023, and is set to close on November 26, 2023, adhering to the Federal Character Commission’s requirement of a six-week application window for government agency vacancies.

The PSC announced in a statement on Tuesday that the recruitment portal, www.apply.policerecruitment.gov.ng, had already received an impressive 288,266 applications by 7 pm on October 23, 2023. Of these, 217,105 applications met the basic requirements for further consideration in the subsequent stages of the recruitment process.

A detailed breakdown provided by PSC spokesperson Ikechukwu Ani revealed that out of the total applicants, 217,300 Nigerian youths applied for the General Duty post, while 70,676 applied for specialist positions. Unfortunately, 69,426 applications were rejected for failing to meet the requirements, and 46,868 were disqualified for exceeding the age limit.

Of the rejected applications, 51,213 were for the General Duty positions, and 18,213 were for specialist roles. The online application requirements were stringent, with conditions such as Nigerian origin, possession of the National Identification Number (NIN), a minimum of five credits in not more than two sittings in WAEC/NECO or equivalent, and an age range of 18 to 25 years. Additionally, applicants must provide a valid email address and phone number. Statements of results or certificates related to examinations taken before 2015 were not accepted, and the application process was free of charge.

The Chairman of the Commission, retired Inspector General of Police, Dr. Solomon Arase, commended the Nigerian youths for their increased interest in pursuing a career within the Nigeria Police Force.

He assured the public that the recruitment exercise would be transparent, and merit based. Dr. Arase urged aspiring candidates to continue visiting the recruitment portal for consideration. This remarkable surge in interest underscores the enthusiasm of Nigerian youth to serve in law enforcement and contribute to their country’s security.
