In response to escalating protests over widespread hunger, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has announced a 24-hour curfew.
The governor made the announcement during a press conference at the Government House on Thursday.
Governor Yusuf justified the curfew by stating, “To prevent further looting, vandalism, and violence against innocent citizens, we have decided to implement a 24-hour curfew. We need to restore order and ensure the safety of everyone in the state.” He directed all local security forces to enforce the curfew effectively.
Similar measures have been taken in Borno and Yobe States. In Borno, the curfew followed chaotic scenes in Maiduguri’s Bulunkutu area, where protesters set up roadblocks, disrupted traffic, and vandalized vehicles. Demonstrators chanted anti-government slogans and carried signs reading “Ba ma yi,” “Tinubu must go,” “End bad governance,” and “There is hunger.”
