The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has declared a state of emergency on crude oil production in Nigeria, announcing an all-out war against the factors hindering efficient production.
This declaration was made by Group Chief Executive Officer Mele Kyari during his keynote speech at the 23rd edition of the Nigeria Oil and Gas Conference and Exhibition (NOG Energy Week) in Abuja on Tuesday.
Kyari emphasized that the NNPC is equipped with the necessary tools to combat these challenges and is committed to working with partners and stakeholders to overcome them. He revealed that a detailed analysis of the assets indicated Nigeria could produce two million barrels of crude oil per day without deploying new rigs, but the primary obstacle has been the industry’s inability to act promptly.
“We have decided to stop the debate. We have declared war on the challenges affecting our crude oil production,” Kyari stated. “War means war. We have the right tools. We know what to fight. We know what we have to do at the level of assets. We have engaged our partners. And we will work together to improve the situation.”
The state of emergency aims to address and swiftly eliminate obstacles to effective and efficient production, such as delays in procurement processes, which have long plagued the industry. Kyari assured that this decisive action would help NNPC and its partners clear all identified hurdles to boost crude oil production in the country.
