The Kano State Police Command has condemned individuals who booed Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II and his entourage as he returned to his palace after Eid prayers on Monday. The incident occurred as the Emir took a different route as part of his religious obligations.
In a statement issued by the command’s spokesman, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the police expressed their displeasure over the actions of unidentified persons who booed the Emir near Festival Primary School and the Zage/Zango areas.
SP Kiyawa emphasized that the police are actively monitoring all Sallah events to maintain law and order. He assured the public that adequate security measures are in place to address any potential security threats during the celebrations.
“The police command is warning individuals intending to cause chaos or breach the peace during the Sallah celebration to stay clear of the state,” Kiyawa stated.
He further noted that sufficient security personnel have been deployed to arrest anyone attempting to disrupt public order. The police have also warned the public against carrying weapons during and after the celebrations, with strict penalties promised for violators.
“Rigorous stop-and-search operations and patrols are ongoing in all Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the metropolitan area to ensure a peaceful celebration,” Kiyawa added.
