In recent developments along the Biu-Buratai-Buni Yadi road, a key thoroughfare connecting Borno and Yobe states in Nigeria, a military convoy has fallen prey to a deadly ambush by members of the Boko Haram sect.
The attack, occurring on Thursday evening, has raised grave concerns about the security situation in the region.
According to sources who spoke with Vanguard, the ambush resulted in significant casualties, including the tragic deaths of a lieutenant officer, a driver, a gunner, and four other soldiers. This marks a solemn moment for the Nigerian military, highlighting the ongoing threats posed by insurgent groups in the area.
The ambush took place near Kamuya village, in close proximity to Buratai, the hometown of the former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Yusuf Buratai (Retired). During the exchange of gunfire, an undisclosed number of terrorists were also reported to have been killed.
A spokesperson confirmed the incident, stating that soldiers of the 135 Special Force Battalion Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Buratai were ambushed while en route to Damaturu, the capital of Yobe state, for fuel procurement. The loss of lives among the military ranks underscores the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in combatting insurgency in the region.
