Peter Obi Supporter’s Drags INEC To Court Over Suspension Of Voters Registration

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has taken a significant step towards the forthcoming governorship election in Edo State by publishing the forms and comprehensive details of the candidates set to contest in the polls scheduled for September 21.

According to a statement issued by Timidi Wariowei, the Head of Voters Education and Publicity for the state INEC, the particulars of the candidates have been made available for public viewing. Wariowei disclosed that the forms and details were prominently displayed at the INEC office located in Aduwawa, Benin City, as well as in all 18 local government offices across the state.

The decision to display the particulars of the candidates, including their running mates and credentials, aligns with electoral laws and regulations. Wariowei emphasized the importance of transparency and compliance with electoral processes, allowing political parties and the general public to scrutinize the details of the candidates.

“In compliance with the law, today, being March 30, 2024, the INEC Edo State Office and the 18 local government area offices have pasted Form EC9, which contains the personal particulars of the 17 candidates and their deputies. The form also includes the credentials of the candidates,” Wariowei stated.

He further urged interested parties to visit the designated INEC offices across the state to review the list of candidates and their accompanying details.

The decision to publish the forms and details of the governorship candidates comes after a directive from Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee. Olumekun had instructed the Edo INEC to ensure the public display of the candidates’ particulars, underscoring the commission’s commitment to transparency and accountability in the electoral process.
