Following the tragic stampede at Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, the Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, has visited the survivors who are currently undergoing medical treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Keffi.

The stampede occurred on Friday morning at the Convocation Square of the state-owned institution, just before the distribution of palliative measures intended to alleviate the effects of subsidy removal in the country.

The incident, which resulted in loss of lives including some undergraduate students, has prompted Governor Abdullahi Sule to attribute it to suspected hoodlums and misguided students.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mallam Ibrahim Addra, Governor Sule vowed to apprehend and prosecute anyone found responsible for the acts.

The governor had initiated the distribution of palliatives, including two bags of 7.5 kilograms of rice and N5,000, to students of tertiary institutions in the state. However, the exercise, which commenced on Monday, March 18, with students of the Isa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic, Lafia, encountered irregularities. Many beneficiaries reported receiving rice without the accompanying money.

The visit by the Deputy Governor to the survivors underscores the state government’s commitment to providing support and assistance to those affected by the tragic incident at NSUK.
