President Bola Tinubu has dismissed reports and rumours concerning his health, insisting that he is healthy, sound and ready to resume work following his return to Nigeria from a four-week vacation abroad.
Tinubu spoke on Tuesday at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos shortly after arriving in the country from his overseas break.
Responding to questions from journalists about reports concerning his health, the President said there was nothing wrong with him and that he was prepared to get back to work.
“I’m ready to kick, ready to work, there’s nothing wrong,” Tinubu said.
The President attributed the rumours about his health to political activities, saying such speculation was expected in the political environment.
“Rumours will always emanate from politics, but the fact remains that I’m here, healthy, sound and ready to go. Ready to work, and ready to go,” he added.
Tinubu also said he enjoyed his vacation, dismissing concerns that his absence from the country was linked to any health challenge.
The President’s aircraft touched down at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport at about 6:22 p.m. on Tuesday.
According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu chose to return through Lagos in honour of the late Chief MKO Abiola, widely recognised as the winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election.
Onanuga said the President was scheduled to attend the premiere of a movie celebrating Abiola’s life and legacy at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos.
The presidential aide also disclosed that Tinubu would hold strategic meetings with political leaders and associates in Lagos over the coming days as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections before returning to Abuja.
Tinubu had spent four weeks abroad during what was described as a working vacation, with his time away generating speculation about his health and activities.
However, his comments upon his return sought to put the health rumours to rest as he declared himself ready to continue with his official duties.
