Residents in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and Kogi State find themselves grappling with power outages following the collapse of a crucial power station. The affected areas fall within the coverage of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), compounding the inconvenience for thousands of households and businesses.
The AEDC issued a statement on Tuesday, informing customers in Zamani Estate, Abacha Road Mararaba, Ruga Juli, and several other parts of Abuja about a technical fault on the 33kv feeder k6 originating from the AT9 Karu Transmission Station. This fault, managed by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), is cited as the cause of the power disruption.
“The management of Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc wishes to notify its esteemed customers that there is currently a technical fault on 33kv feeder k6 from AT9 Karu Transmission Station, managed by the Transmission Company of Nigeria,” the statement read.
Affected areas in Abuja include Zamani Estate, Abacha Road Mararaba, Ruga Juli, Old Karu Road, Glory Estate, and surrounding environs. The AEDC assured customers that TCN maintenance crews are diligently working to restore electricity supply to these areas, expressing regret for any inconvenience caused.
Prior to this incident, the TCN had announced planned maintenance on its TR3 45MVA and TR2 60MVA power transformers situated in its 132/33kV Okene Transmission Substation. The maintenance, scheduled from Tuesday to Wednesday, was set to take place between 10 am and 3 pm each day.
As efforts continue to rectify the technical fault and restore power supply, residents and businesses in the affected areas are urged to remain patient. The AEDC and TCN have emphasized their commitment to resolving the situation swiftly to minimize the impact on daily life and economic activities.
