Federal lawmaker Shehu Dalhatu Tafoki, representing the Faskari/Kankara/Sabuwa constituency, has voiced grave concern over the relentless banditry attacks plaguing his constituents.
In a telephone conversation with journalists, Tafoki expressed deep distress over the dire situation faced by residents who have been forced out of their homes due to incessant assaults by criminal groups.
“The fear and anxiety among the people are palpable. Many no longer feel safe in their own homes, with men often chosen to sleep elsewhere and women and children seeking refuge in neighbouring towns,” Tafoki lamented to Daily Trust.
Highlighting the significant toll on the affected population, he mourned the loss of lives, destruction of property, and the widespread displacement caused by the frequent attacks.
While acknowledging the efforts of Governor Mallam Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State in addressing the crisis, Tafoki urged all stakeholders, including national security agencies, to prioritize the safety of Nigerians.
Presenting a motion in the house on matters of urgent public importance, Tafoki underscored the immediate need to address the escalating violence and abductions. He referenced sections 33 and 41 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which guarantee the right to life and freedom of movement.
The lawmaker recounted recent incidents, including the abduction of wedding guests, where the perpetrators demanded a ransom exceeding N200 million.
Tafoki’s impassioned plea in the legislature reflects the growing urgency to tackle the security challenges facing the Faskari/Kankara/Sabuwa constituency and underscores the pressing need for concerted efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of its residents.
