The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has called upon President Bola Tinubu to take action against Sunday Adeyemi, also known as Sunday Igboho, a prominent Yoruba Nation agitator.
MACBAN emphasized the necessity for uniformity in law enforcement, asserting that Igboho should face similar treatment to Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), in terms of arrest and prosecution.
Baba Othman Ngelzarma, the National President of MACBAN, made this declaration on Friday in a statement following Igboho’s demand for the expulsion of bandits and killer herders from the Southwest.
Igboho had rallied the Yoruba people of the South West to unite and liberate themselves from the influence of armed Fulani herders, whom he accused of perpetrating violence against farmers in the region.
Ngelzarma criticized Igboho’s remarks, labeling them as unlawful and potentially treasonous.
“We call on the commander-in-chief of the armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR), and relevant security agencies to arrest and prosecute Sunday Igboho for making this unlawful statement that amounts to treason because he is asking for the actualization of Oduduwa nation,” he stated.
“His statements are unlawful. If Nnamdi Kanu will be held behind bars for a similar offence, we see no reason why Sunday Igboho will be allowed to go scot-free without being arrested and prosecuted.”
MACBAN’s call for action against Igboho underscores the escalating tensions surrounding the issue of herdsmen-farmer clashes and calls for self-determination in Nigeria.
