The All Progressives Congress (APC) has been plunged into mourning following the tragic murder of Sylvanus Namang, the Publicity Secretary of the Plateau State chapter of the party. Namang lost his life during a burial ceremony in Pankshin LGA, sparking shock and sadness among party members.
According to reports, Namang, a native of Mangu Local Government Area, was fatally shot by hoodlums while purchasing items at a local shop near the burial site. The incident has left the APC community reeling from the loss of a dedicated member.
Festus Fuanter, the National Secretary of the APC, has drawn attention to the concerning circumstances surrounding Namang’s death. Fuanter revealed that Namang had received more than 20 death threats prior to his murder, indicating a targeted campaign against him.
Expressing his grief, Fuanter stated, “His death is quite sad. If it was a case of kidnapping, they would have abducted him and left. Why kill him on the spot? We are waiting for the outcome of any possible investigation and security report on the circumstances surrounding the incident, and we will respond appropriately.”
Former Plateau State governor, Simon Lalong, also condemned Namang’s killing and urged security agencies to swiftly apprehend the perpetrators. Lalong emphasized the need for justice in the face of such a senseless act of violence.
Rufus Bature, the Chairman of the Plateau State APC, echoed the sentiments of mourning and shock within the party. Describing Namang as a gentleman committed to his duties, Bature emphasized the loss the party has suffered and paid tribute to Namang’s dedication and honesty.
The murder of Sylvanus Namang has not only robbed the APC of a valuable member but has also raised concerns about the safety and security of political activists in Plateau State. As calls for justice grow louder, the party awaits the outcome of investigations into the tragic incident.
