The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State has been thrown into mourning following the tragic death of its Publicity Secretary, Sylvanus Namang, who was reportedly shot dead in Pankshin town, Pankshin Local Government Area of the state.
According to reports from Daily Trust, Namang met his untimely demise while attending a burial in Pankshin. He was fatally shot outside his hotel room by unidentified hoodlums around 7:30 am on Saturday.
Confirming the incident, an APC official, who preferred anonymity, disclosed that Namang succumbed to injuries sustained in the attack. The late Namang was hailed as a reliable ally deeply committed to the growth and development of the APC at both grassroots and state levels.
The party expressed profound sadness over the loss and assured that a formal statement regarding the circumstances surrounding Namang’s death would be issued in due course.
In the midst of this tragedy, a political tussle within the APC has intensified. Salihu Lukman, a prominent chieftain of the party, has called upon former Edo State governor Adams Oshiomhole to desist from solely blaming former President Muhammadu Buhari for the economic challenges facing the nation.
Oshiomhole had recently attributed the nation’s hardships to what he termed as the “reckless policies” of the former president. However, Lukman, in a statement titled “APC and Question of Liability: Open Letter to APC Leaders,” countered Oshiomhole’s assertions, stressing that all APC leaders, including the incumbent president, bear responsibility for Buhari’s policies.
Lukman recalled his past protests against policies he believed were exacerbating the plight of Nigerians already suffering, emphasizing the need for collective accountability within the APC leadership.
As Plateau State mourns the loss of Sylvanus Namang, the APC grapples with internal divisions and a widening blame game over the nation’s economic challenges.
