Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has put forward the name of Olayide Adelami, a former Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly, for the position of deputy governor. The nomination comes in the wake of the governor’s recent dissolution of the State Executive Council members and the dismissal of all aides to the former governor, Rotimi Akeredolu.
Adelami, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a native of Owo, retired as the deputy clerk at the National Assembly in April 2018. He was actively involved in the APC primary contest in 2020, competing alongside the late Rotimi Akeredolu, who was the incumbent governor at the time.
Confirming Adelami’s nomination, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, informed The Gazette on Wednesday afternoon. Adeniyan stated that the official announcement of Adelami’s nomination would be made by the House of Assembly later in the day.
“His (Adelami) nomination will be announced by the House of Assembly later today,” Adeniyan affirmed.
The nomination of Adelami is seen as a response to the calls for Governor Aiyedatiwa to appoint a deputy governor after assuming the role of governor. This move follows the dissolution of the State Executive Council and the removal of aides to the former governor, marking a significant reshuffling within the state government.
