Abdulmajid Danbilki Kwamanda, a prominent figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) on charges related to his alleged threats of mobilizing the masses to incite unrest and make Kano ungovernable.
Reports indicate that Kwamanda had purportedly issued a threat to organize large-scale protests that could force the federal government to declare a state of emergency in Kano.
The arrest was prompted by a video of one of Kwamanda’s recent radio interviews, where he made contentious statements, which subsequently went viral. The security agencies, upon reviewing the video, took action and apprehended the APC stalwart. Following his arrest, Kwamanda was handed over to the police and subsequently charged before a Magistrate Court in Kano.
An anonymous senior official from the DSS in Kano confirmed the arrest and mentioned that Kwamanda has been remanded to a correctional facility based on the court’s order. The controversial politician is reported to have expressed dissatisfaction with the Supreme Court’s judgment affirming the election of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in Kano. Kwamanda also criticized President Bola Tinubu for allegedly not ensuring the APC’s retention of the state.
In addition to his political grievances, Kwamanda had voiced objections to recent decisions such as the Central Bank of Nigeria’s move to relocate some staff to Lagos from Abuja and the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria’s decision to shift its headquarters from Abuja to Lagos. He alleged that these actions were part of a plan by the Tinubu-led administration to undermine the northern part of the country.
