In response to the escalating incidents of kidnapping, killings, and other criminal activities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun is set to launch a Special Intervention Squad (SIS). The primary objective of this special operations team is to address the recent surge in violence perpetrated by notorious bandits.

The IGP revealed that the SIS, once inaugurated, will be deployed across all Area Councils within the nation’s capital. The move comes in the wake of a series of attacks in which gunmen targeted and kidnapped numerous residents of the territory, causing growing concerns for the safety and security of the region.

President Bola Tinubu and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike have both reassured residents of their unwavering commitment to bringing the security situation under control. The launch of the Special Intervention Squad aligns with the broader efforts to combat criminal elements and enhance the overall safety of the Federal Capital Territory.

The announcement reflects the collaborative approach being taken by security forces and government officials to address the security challenges in the FCT. As the SIS prepares to take on its mandate, residents and stakeholders are hopeful that this strategic intervention will yield positive results in curbing criminal activities and ensuring the protection of lives and property in the nation’s capital.
